Ukrainian contemporary art in London

On Oct. 13th 2011 Flaxon Ptootch Gallery in London will present a show of Ukrainian contemporary art. The show is supported by Britain’s Ukrainian community and organized by HAPPENSPANCE radio.

Lesya Kara-Kotsya

In the last decade the London public has seen several shows of classic Ukrainian painting. But a group show of contemporary young artists is happening for the first time. During the time of the exhibition the audience will not only have a chance to see artworks, but also traditional Ukrainian jewelry, taste traditional dishes and listen to traditional Ukrainian music.

Having received more than 500 entries, the organizers of the show picked around 40 artists (among which Lesya Kara-Kotsya, Marta Hrystyk, Akbar Khurasani, Marta Syrko and others) whose works will now be exhibited in London. It is worth mentioning, that despite various techniques, that the presented artists are working in, most of the works picked for the show are works on canvas or photographs.

Marta Hrystyk

Flaxon Ptootch Gallery, where the show will be taking place, has a 15-year-long experience in exhibiting contemporary art and an impeccable reputation. The gallery is situated in Kentish town, an area of London popular among art-lovers.

The curator of the show, Anastasiya Kokhan, hopes that the show will help bring more attention and publicity to contemporary young artists from Ukraine, as well as help boost their career and bring commercial success. Artists, taking part in the show, will also be considered for a participation in a big salon of Ukrainian art during the 2012 Olympic Games in London.

The show will continue till Nov. 9th 2011
