Merz’s mini-retrospective
Pace gallery is collaborating with the artist's foundation on show for 2014.
Pace gallery is collaborating with the Fondazione Merz, Turin, to organise a mini-retrospective of work by the Italian artist Mario Merz (1925-2003). The show, organised with Beatrice Merz, the artist’s daughter and the director of the foundation, is due to open in Pace’s Burlington Gardens space in London next October, during the 2014 edition of Frieze. Best known for his sculptures of igloos and neon spirals derived from the Fibonacci formula, Merz was a pioneer of Arte Povera along with Alighiero Boetti, Jannis Kounellis and Giuseppe Penone. Merz’s estate continues to be represented by Gladstone Gallery, New York, and Konrad Fischer Galerie, Düsseldorf and Berlin, among others.
